At Cape May AI, we design and develop AI-driven business solutions. What does that mean? Well, for those of you who are totally unfamiliar with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, I want to introduce you to one of the most popular AI platforms out there today, ChatGPT. I believe this introduction will give you a better idea of what AI and Cape May AI can do for your business.
Welcome to the world of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s advanced language model designed to engage in human-like conversations. Whether you have never heard of or have “played” with ChatGPT a few times, this very brief guide will walk you through the essentials of using ChatGPT and provide five effective strategies to deepen your understanding.
Getting Started with ChatGPT
1. Access the Platform: Navigate to chat.openai.com to access ChatGPT or download the ChatGPT app on your phone. Personally, I use both.
2. Create an Account: Click on “Sign Up” and register using your email address. Alternatively, you can sign up using your Google or Microsoft account. I use my google Gmail account for simplicity’s sake. Also, whether I log in on my phone or on the PC, my previous chat history is there waiting for me. You will start to realize why this is quite important as you delve into ChatGPT.
3. Verify Your Email: After registration, you’ll receive a verification email. Follow the instructions to confirm your account.
4. Start Chatting: Once logged in, you’re ready to interact with ChatGPT. Type your questions or prompts in the chat box and press ‘Enter’ to receive responses. It really is that simple. But and there is always a “but” isn’t there? As you start using this tool, you may realize the results are not always what you were hoping for. Keep these points in mind as you continue to use ChatGPT or other “Large Language Model” LLM-based AI tools. Don’t let that term scare you, it is kind of like understanding how the air we breathe works, we don’t to breathe! Make sense? If you decide to be an AI expert, then this will matter, but for now…just breathe and ask questions of ChatGPT.
Top 5 Ways to Enhance Your ChatGPT Experience
1. Understand Its Capabilities and Limitations:
• Capabilities: ChatGPT can draft emails, write code snippets, generate creative content, answer general knowledge questions, and a whole lot more, but let’s start small.
• Limitations: It may produce incorrect or nonsensical answers and lacks real-time awareness at times. Always verify critical information from reliable sources. And as a word of caution right of the bat, do not tell ChatGPT any personal information about yourself, but you can tell it things like what kind of information you are looking for in terms of your personal preferences. For instance, I like my coffee extra creamy and sweet, when asking ChatGPT to give you some unique tasting coffee recipes. Make sense?
2. Learn to Craft Effective Prompts:
• The quality of ChatGPT’s responses heavily depends on how you frame your questions. Be clear and specific to get the most accurate answers. The way you input questions or commands to ChatGPT are called prompts, the better you tell it what you want, the better it responds. Think of talking to ChatGPT just like you would one of your children, give it clear, concise instructions for what you want. Now, like with your children, you may need to rephrase what you are looking for a few different ways, but as you do, your “prompting” skills will give you better, and better results.
For instance, type in the following prompt: “Act as a brilliant chef, and craft a delicious, low calorie omelet recipe that is easy to prep and can be served quickly. I really enjoy veggies, cheese, and meat in my omelets. And I do not like onions.”
This is the result I just received when I input this into ChatGPT:

This omelet is high in protein, low in calories, and packed with flavor—perfect for a quick breakfast or a light meal. Would you like any variations or suggestions for side pairings? 😃
Now, you may notice a few important elements of this result:
1. This isn’t your plain jane, boring omelet, this thing sounds amazing. So amazing, I want to stop writing and go try out this recipe.
2. There are NO onions in the ingredients.
3. The result is exactly what you asked for.
4. And likely, one of the most important “learning” features of using ChatGPT, read the last line in the result. It says, “Would you like any variations or suggestions for side pairings?” This is the power of “generative” AI, it doesn’t just spit out an answer, it can modify, customize, and personalize, upon your request. Think about other things you can use this tool for.
3. Explore Tutorials and Guides:
• There are numerous online resources that offer step-by-step tutorials on using ChatGPT effectively. For instance, just google it or search for videos on YouTube. I have included a link for one at the end of this article, that is a great starting point.
4. Engage with the Community:
• Participate in forums and communities like Reddit’s r/ChatGPTPro to share experiences, ask questions, and learn from other users.
5. Experiment and Practice:
• The best way to learn is by doing and using AI tools like ChatGPT is no different, as a matter a fact, it is likely even more relevant. And you will quickly see the quality of your result improve as the quality of your “prompts” improve. Engage in diverse conversations with ChatGPT to familiarize yourself with its response patterns and improve your prompt-crafting skills. Or ask us a question on our website using our own chatbot, Revo, she directly interfaces with ChatGPT and can help you explore what our business can do for your business.
Final Thoughts
Embarking on your journey with ChatGPT opens up a realm of possibilities. By understanding its functionalities, crafting thoughtful prompts, leveraging educational resources, engaging with user communities, and practicing regularly, you’ll maximize the benefits of this powerful AI tool. Remember, while ChatGPT is a remarkable assistant, it’s essential to approach its outputs critically and complement them with human judgment, and again…do not give it personal or security sensitive information. Now, we all know your Social Security number is already all over the Internet, but no reason to help the spread even more.
